2006 Taco Mania
Taco Mania - January 30th, 2006 - March 5th, 2006
Taco Mania, the follow-up promotion to last year's Taco Olympico, successfully created awareness of the Laredo Taco Company brand while providing an impressive sales lift for the breakfast taco offering. The Taco Mania promotion consisted of a radio DJ contest, in-store point-of-sale materials and culminated with title sponsorship of three events in the Valley,
Laredo and Corpus Christi.
Taco Mania centered around Lucha Libre, Mexico’s in-your-face brand of professional wrestling, which is second only to soccer as the country’s most popular sport. Four leading radio stations in each market created a "custom" breakfast taco from the Laredo Taco Company menu. Each radio station gave their custom taco a name, consistent with the names of Mexican wrestlers or "luchadors". These tacos were offered at the promotional price of 99cents and the DJ's pushed their listeners to buy their station's taco. The radio station in each market that sold the most tacos was the winner, and their taco was added to the menu. The winning radio DJ's were also given the opportunity to be the Master of Ceremony at a Lucha Libre event in their area, which was sponsored by Laredo Taco Company and Circle K.
